Feed The People

Feed the People has been doing just that for ten years now.
They started this mutual aid endeavor in 2016.

They also have Creighton medical students offering free blood pressure, blood sugar, and diabetic testing.

Communications officer Sophie said FTP was founded because local communists saw the contradictions of capitalism being realized in their communities.

“We saw that people were unable to get the food they needed to feed themselves and their families,” she said.

Sophie said FTP was heavily inspired by the Black Panther’s breakfast program.

“We want to be able to provide working class families with a week’s worth of groceries once a month,” she said. “This way, working class people can get some relief from worrying about food for part of the month.”‍ ‍Source: UNO Gateway

Food Not Bombs has been feeding the Omaha community since 1996. Each week, we receive produce that grocery stores can’t sell, and every Sunday we set up on 14th and Farnam Street, at 2pm to give that food to the people it belongs to. Whether it’s raining or shining, whether there are 13 volunteers or 3, we’re there to guarantee a healthy meal, because food is people’s right.

Because, in a world where so much food is wasted, it is unacceptable that some 1 billion people don’t have enough to eat.

Because, when so much money is spent on war, it’s a crime that billions of people are subjected to poverty.

Food Not Bombs stands against hunger and poverty, against waste and war. We work to overcome fear, hatred, and dehumanization through a hot meal and an honest smile. We ask: Why are things this way, and how can they be different? And we offer solidarity, not charity, to communities that dare to believe in a better world.

A better world that’s possible. A world that becomes real every week, as boxes of food are saved from the landfill and distributed to their rightful recipients, all over the world. But it takes each of us to make that happen. It takes you.

07/24/2026: This section under construction yet. With the recent news that undocumented folks may soon face refusal of food pantry services, we will eventually get to vetting every single one. We will list all the details of barriers to entry, and create a score system on accessibility from that. As of right now, we’re just aggregating all the pantries we’ve been able to find around town, and online. We’ve found that a lot of them aren’t listed online, so we want to make this a comprehensive list, ordered by region of the city. Community fridges offer residents (all people) the chance to access food without a set schedule, choose items for themselves, and share in mutual aid when there is extra to give.”

Thanks to some dedicated comrades, a whole smattering of Council Bluffs area Community Fridges will soon be opening up throughout the city. As of right now, the very first one to open is at:

The point person for this pantry, Nancy, has a wonderful vision for how they will expand their stewardship of the community.

There is a text messaging-based enrollment program that alerts volunteers of when/where donation pickups are needed. She coordinates logistics with anyone who responds. They stock the fridge/pantry at all different times of the day/night to further expand access to all receivers of the food.

They have a back-stocking system setup because the donations have been flooding in so well. She described the inception of the project as a response to a nearby food pantry closure that left a lot of people hanging.

There are other community fridges about to go up at “All Care” and “the Lakin Campus,” with many other potential hosts currently in talks with the organizers.

Nancy is planning to share the abundance of donations that they have sourced to all future free fridges that get installed. There will be a network equitably distributing large quantities of foods to keep the fridges fare diversified, and well stocked!
